Warriors’ Steve Kerr Breaks Silence on Whether Wednesday Is His Last Game

The Golden State Warriors face the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night with their season on the line. For Steve Kerr, the stakes extend beyond one game. His contract expires at the end of the 2025-26 season, and with Wednesday potentially representing the final buzzer on this chapter of the Warriors’ dynasty, the question of his future has become impossible to avoid.

Kerr has spent 12 years building something special in Golden State. Four championships. A coaching legacy that speaks for itself. And a relationship with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green that goes well beyond the basketball court.

On Tuesday, speaking on Willard and Dibs, Kerr was asked point-blank whether Wednesday could be his final game as Warriors head coach.

What Kerr Said About His Future

Kerr was characteristically measured in his response.

“I’m honestly not thinking about that,” Kerr said. “I’m just locked in on trying to beat the Clippers.”

He went further, addressing what actually occupies his mind heading into an elimination game.

“What I’m thinking about honestly is how much I enjoy this,” Kerr said. “I still love what I do and I’ve been lucky to be here for 12 years with this group. We’ll figure all that other stuff out whenever the season ends.”

The words were genuine. Kerr has never been someone who lets outside noise infiltrate his preparation, and Wednesday is no different. The contract situation will sort itself out. Right now, there is a play-in game to win.

What Green Said About Keeping Kerr

The players have made their position clear. Green was direct when addressing the possibility of Kerr’s departure on ESPN’s NBA Today this week.

“Steph doesn’t want another coach,” Green said. “Nobody wants that. We won four championships under coach Kerr. If he stops today he’s a hall of fame coach. As long as we have a Steve Kerr wanting to coach this team, you’re not gonna go and find a better coach. That’s not a worry of mine or anybody in this organization.”

The statement reflected something deeper than loyalty. Before Kerr arrived, the Warriors were not serious title contenders. Everything that followed, the championships, the culture, the identity, was built under his watch. Green knows that better than anyone.

Kerr himself has been equally clear about his attachment to this group. Earlier this season he stated simply that he would never leave Curry. Reports indicate the Warriors front office is prepared to offer him an extension for as long as he wants one.

Final Word for the Warriors

Wednesday’s play-in game against the Clippers is the only thing on Kerr’s mind right now. The contract talks, the retirement speculation, the dynasty narrative, all of it gets shelved until the season is over.

Twelve years. Four championships. A core that still does not want anyone else on the sideline.

Whatever happens Wednesday, that legacy is already written.
