For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.
This week, we consider performances from Feb. 26 to March 2.
Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Vote as many times as you’d like until then without using bots or any other artificial methods of voting.
Votes by email and after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted.

Candidates for future Athlete of the Week polls can be nominated at highschools@bayareanewsgroup.com.
We accept nominations until 11 a.m. each Monday.
We also review stats submitted to MaxPreps by coaches/team statisticians.
On to the nominees:
Annie Bui, Washington-Fremont track and field: Bui, a senior won the 100-meter hurdles event at the Dan Gabor meet after running it in 17.27 seconds. She also finished sixth in the 300-meter hurdles event.
Megan Elgaaen, Sequoia lacrosse: Elgaaen, a junior, scored four goals in a 15-5 victory over Notre Dame-Belmont. She also scored two goals against Gunn, and had five assists across the two games.
Megan Haniger, Archbishop Mitty soccer: Haniger, a senior, led the Archbishop Mitty back line as the Monarchs held St. Francis scoreless in regulation and overtime of the NorCal Division I title game. Mitty beat its rival from Mountain View 5-3 in penalty kicks.
Olivia Hurtado, Freedom softball: Hurtado, a junior, started her season off strong by hitting a home run in each of her first two games. Hurtado drove in five runs and drew a walk. Hurtado batted .284 and hit two home runs last season.
Savannah Jones, Bishop O’Dowd basketball: Jones, a senior point guard, scored 19 points as the Dragons defeated Oak Ridge to advance to the NorCal Division I title game. Jones also made major contributions to O’Dowd’s playoff victories over St. Francis and St. Ignatius in earlier rounds.
Katia Nesper, The King’s Academy softball: Nesper, a sophomore, had 27 total strikeouts in victories over Leigh and Presentation last week. She also had three hits, one being a home run, and three RBI in the victory over Presentation.
Avery Provenzano, Notre Dame-San Jose softball: Provenzano, a pitcher, struck out 11 and gave up just two hits in a five-inning shutout against Pioneer. She also struck out seven in an eight-inning victory over Gunn.
Daijha Teague, Oakland basketball: Teague, a senior, scored a team-high 16 points as the Wildcats beat Woodland Christian 57-40 to advance to the NorCal Division V final. Teague was named all-OAL last season and led the Wildcats to the section title game this season.
Keshia Vitalicio, Carondelet basketball: Vitalicio, a senior, made eight straight free throws in overtime to help the Cougars defeat McClatchy and advance to the NorCal Division I title game. The senior point guard will play at Lehigh in the fall.
Vanessa Zamora, Mission San Jose softball: Zamora, a freshman, had two hits, scored five runs and drove in four teammates in Mission San Jose’s 21-2 victory over San Lorenzo. The freshman also had a stolen base.
