VJ Edgecombe Makes NBA History in 76ers Game 2 Win vs Celtics

Following a disappointing showing in Game 1, VJ Edgecombe and the Philadelphia 76ers got their revenge against the Boston Celtics in the follow-up outing.

Edgecombe is a primary reason why the Sixers are heading home with the series tied.

Amid the Game 2 beatdown, which went in favor of the 76ers this time, Edgecombe made NBA history.

The only positive to the Sixers missing the playoffs last season was the fact that they got to keep their first-round pick in 2025.

Not only did they protect the lottery selection from the Oklahoma City Thunder, but the 76ers landed the third-overall pick, which was a critical jump. Although they didn’t have a shot at Duke’s Cooper Flagg or Rutgers’ Dylan Harper, the 76ers could zero in on VJ Edgecombe, just as they did.

During the regular season, Edgecombe appeared in 75 games for the 76ers (all starts). He shot 43.8% from the field to average 16.0 points per game. Along with his scoring, Edgecombe came down with 5.6 rebounds per game and produced 4.2 assists per game.

The NBA announced that Edgecombe finished the year as a Rookie of the Year finalist. While Edgecombe hasn’t garnered favorable odds to win it, getting recognized as a finalist as the third pick proves the Sixers made the right choice.
