Updated ‘We’re the 49ers’ anthem features Purdy, Deebo, Kittle shoutouts

“We’re the 49ers” has gotten a makeover for 2024.

The nostalgia-rich anthem, originally written by Narada Michael Walden for the Niners’ championship march in 1984, has been refreshed and updated to help inspire both players and fans as the team gets ready to take on the Kansas City Chiefs at Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas on Sunday.

Besides offering up the empowering original lyrics — such as “We’re the 49ers, we will rock you until we win the fight” — the song now includes shoutouts to current superstars like George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, Brock Purdy and Brandon Aiyuk.

“I really want this music to empower the Niners, to empower the entire Bay Area through the next week to victory this Sunday,” says Walden, a Grammy-winning Bay Area musician and producer. “

Walden wrote this song in the midst of a very dominant decade for the 49ers and enlisted a number of Niner greats to sing on the track.

“I was very much in love with the 49ers and they were just on fire,” he says. “I met a player named Ronnie Lott who really inspired me and we did this song together.”

Other Niners featured on the original track include Joe Montana, Dwight Clark and Renaldo Nehemiah.
