Denver on winter storm watch as more snow coming this weekend
The National Weather Service issued winter weather advisories for the northern mountains, with up to 20 inches of snow and wind gusts as high as 55 mph forecast for U.S. 40 over Rabbit Ears Pass and up to 14 inches of snow and 55 mph gusts forecast in areas above 9,000 feet in Jackson, Larimer, Grand and Boulder counties.
The storm prompted the Colorado Avalanche Information Center to issue an avalanche watch for the Park Range, which extends through Medicine Bow, Pike, Arapaho, Routt and White River national forests.
“Heavy snow and strong winds will create dangerous avalanche conditions from Friday morning through Saturday,” the agency posted on Wednesday on X.
Current National Weather Service forecasts show most of the Front Range getting less than an inch of snow.
Snow is also forecast to fall along the Interstate 70 mountain corridor, including up to 6 inches in Vail.
