Undefeated prospect Khasan Magomedsharipov (10-0) is set to make his long-awaited PFL debut at PFL San Diego on June 27th. The talented Russian fighter takes on Levy Saúl Marroquin (16-3) at featherweight.
A promotion official informed Heavy.com about the match-up. PFL San Diego takes place at Pechanga Arena San Diego and is headlined by a featherweight fight between former Bellator MMA champion AJ McKee and the undefeated Salamat Isbulaev.
One Of The Biggest Undefeated Talents In MMA
The undefeated Khasan Magomedsharipov is the younger brother of the now-retired former UFC fighter Zabit Magomedsharipov. The 25-year-old fighting out of Makhachkala, Dagestan, is one of the biggest talents in MMA today. Magomedsharipov started his professional MMA career in 2019 in his home country, Russia. After five wins, he already signed with Bellator MMA. The Russian fighter also showed his skills in the US with finishes and dominant victories against tough opponents.
After going 5-0 with Bellator MMA, the PFL acquired the promotion in November 2023. Magomedsharipov was supposed to fight already three times for the PFL. For reasons unknown, all three match-ups didn’t happen. The undefeated talent will finally make his debut on June 27th against Levy Saúl Marroquin.
Levy Saúl Marroquin Hasn’t Lost In Seven Years
Marroquin is a 30-year-old fighter out of Monterrey, Nueva Leon, Mexico. Just like Magomedsharipov, he is making his promotional debut in San Diego for PFL. The Mexican fighter started his MMA career in 2013. Marroquin worked his way up in the regional scene of Mexico and won his first professional MMA title in his fifth professional fight. But his breakthrough came after he signed with Combate Americas.
He became one of the well-known and most respected athletes of the organization after winning three fights in one night to take home the Copa Combate trophy. In the finale, he beat current UFC-fighter John Castañeda after three rounds via unanimous decision. In his most recent fight, he finished Nicolas Varela with a vicious headkick early in the first round. Marroquin is riding a four-fight winning streak when he takes on Magomedsharipov in the PFL SmartCage.
A Main Event & Co-Main Event With Heavy Title Implications
During the main event of the card, fan favorite AJ McKee takes on Salamat Isbulaev. It’s a fight between the numbers two and five in the PFL rankings. McKee is one of the biggest names in the promotion and looks to secure a title shot at featherweight. Opponent Isbulaev stunned former tournament winner Jesus Pinedo in his PFL debut by finishing the Peruvian in the first round. A win over McKee puts Isbulaev right in the mix for a possible next title fight.
Just like the main event also the co-main event have heavy title implications. Former PFL tournament winner and former Bellator MMA champion Liz Carmouche wants to secure her title shot against current flyweight champion Dakota Ditcheva. Carmouche takes on Viviane Araújo. Carmouche rides a three-fight winning streak with her most recent win over Jena Bishop to win the PFL 2025 tournament in the flyweight division. Opponent Araújo came over from the UFC and won her PFL debut last month against Shanna Young. Araújo knows that a win over Carmouche possibly puts her next in line for a title shot in the flyweight division.
