Braylon grew up in Greenfield, Indiana, with Josh and Katie alongside his younger twin brothers, Cole and Clay. Basketball played a central role in their household, with all three sons participating in the sport.
Cole and Clay also played at Greenfield-Central High School, where they shared the court with Braylon. The family’s involvement in basketball created an environment that supported his development from an early age.
2. Josh Mullins Played Basketball & Coached Braylon
Josh has a background in basketball, having played at IU-Indy. He later served as an assistant coach during Braylon’s high school career.
Braylon has credited his father for his growth as a player. “My dad taught me to be persistent and just trying to make sure you fight through all the hard,” Braylon told CBS Sports. “I think he was the one who just pushed me to the max.”
Even after high school, Josh continues to offer feedback. After Braylon’s buzzer-beater, Braylon told CT Insider, “I know I’ll hear from my dad, ‘You probably should have hit the easier one.’ I’m just happy we won that game.”

Josh spoke about Braylon’s game-winning shot that sent UConn to the Final Four on March 29.
“It’s a surreal moment,” Josh said, per CT Insider. “I’m still trying to process it. I can’t believe it went in.”
The moment marked a milestone for the family after years of support and shared experience in the sport.
4. Braylon Mullins’ Parents Have Known Each Other Since Childhood
Katie and Josh met at age 7 while sitting in the same second-grade class. Their relationship continued through high school, where they eventually began dating.
Katie shared that their first date took place on Feb. 14, 1998. The couple later married on Sept. 17, 2005.
Katie’s Instagram bio even reads, “married to my high school sweetheart.”
5. Katie Mullins Helped Braylon Choose UConn
Katie played a role in Braylon’s decision to attend UConn. She accompanied him on an unofficial visit to campus in November 2024.
She told CT Insider she “absolutely [loved]” the school and its basketball culture. “He is kind of a momma’s boy, he’s not ever left very far from home,” Katie said. “But when we came here, it was comfortable. I felt like it was home. I couldn’t not see him being here.”
Braylon ultimately committed to UConn, where he became a key contributor during the 2025-26 season.
