Popular guard Tyler Herro believes his time with the Miami Heat has finally come to an end after spending his first seven NBA seasons with the franchise. Herro has been involved in trade rumors for many years now, since Miami has tried to add a new face of the franchise. Heat head honcho Pat Riley claiming that he won’t trade Bam Adebayo basically confirms Herro is the biggest name on the roster who could get moved this offseason.
Longtime Miami Heat beat writer Ira Winderman reported the following about Herro’s mindset:
“I think Tyler Herro thinks he has (played his final game with Miami). I think it’s just been too much. It’s been nonstop, it’s been incessant that you can say, ‘Hey, you only showed up in 33 games this season, you have no right in that.’
When you hear every single year you’re going to be moved somewhere else, I think it wears on you. I don’t think Tyler Herro can be his best self in Miami. I think he’s been knocked down too many times.”
Miami has asked a lot of Herro to play consistently strong offense and deal with trade rumors every season. It has been about four years of constant trade rumors for Herro to finally realize the time is likely coming this summer to get moved with more names available.
Three Superstars Named As Trade Targets
Winderman specifically went out of his way to name three specific NBA superstars when discussing the likelihood of a Herro trade this summer. Riley reportedly told Herro years ago that he’d only be traded in exchange for a top-tier player with Hall of Fame potential.
“Remember, the Heat told Tyler that if they move him, it’ll be for a Hall of Famer,” Winderman stated. “They’re trying to do the same right now. They’re trying to do it for Giannis; they might do it for Durant, I have a feeling it could be for Lauri Markkanen.”
Giannis Antetokounmpo is the most obvious name since Miami has been interested since rumors started of a move last summer. Kevin Durant is another predictable name the Heat have shown interest in the past about acquiring. Lauri Markkanen is the most surprising option, but his offensive greatness could boost Miami’s roster.
Tyler Herro Ready For His Next Home
The belief that Herro is mentally preparing for a trade means that he’s likely welcoming it. Herro had a tough season dealing with injuries all season and getting eliminated in the first play-in game against the Charlotte Hornets.
Most teams would want Herro to become their new top offensive player in a trade for a superstar caliber player. Other young assets, like Kel’el Ware and Jaime Jaquez Jr., could present interesting prospects in a move for Giannis or another massive trade.
A three-team trade could also be facilitated if the team sending a star to Miami doesn’t want to pay Herro. The Brooklyn Nets, Chicago Bulls, and Detroit Pistons are three teams with cap space hoping to add more talent this offseason to give Herro more options.
