Two wounded in shooting near Loyola University

Two men were wounded and a vehicle was struck by gunfire early Sunday morning near Loyola University.

The incident occurred about 2 a.m. on West Devon Avenue, between Magnolia and North Lakewood avenues, Chicago police said.

A 31-year-old man was hospitalized in fair condition after being shot in the abdomen. A 29-year-old man sustained gunshot wounds to the hip and torso and was taken to a local hospital in fair condition, police said.

A witness told WGN-TV that a fight may have led to the shooting. Surveillance footage reportedly shows a crowd of people fleeing the area moments after the shots rang out.

The shooting occurred in the Rogers Park neighborhood, heavily populated by college students.

Nearby, an employee finishing a shift at a pizza restaurant discovered that multiple bullets had hit his car, WGN reported.

“It just makes you feel — I don’t even know how to describe it — it just feels awful inside,” said Andrew Johnston, whose vehicle was damaged. “There’s a baby seat in the back. That’s a family’s car.”

As of Sunday, no arrests had been made.
