Two Chicago police officers wounded in shooting at Swedish Hospital in Lincoln Square

A gunman shot two Chicago police officers Saturday morning at Swedish Hospital before fleeing into the Lincoln Square neighborhood and barricading himself inside a residence, sources said.

The two officers are assigned to the Albany Park police district and had been detailed to work at the hospital, 5140 N. California Ave, according to the law enforcement sources. The gunman disarmed one of the officers before opening fire.

Chicago police haven’t released details about the shooting, including the injuries and conditions of the wounded officers.

The gunman ran from the hospital and hid in a nearby home, sources said.

Ald. Andre Vasquez (40th) said in a statement posted on Facebook at about noon that there were “multiple shots fired and two officers shot, one in critical condition.”

He advised residents near the hospital and the 2600 block of West Winona Street to shelter in place and avoid the area.
