The 2026 season may just be getting underway, but the Toronto Blue Jays have already made a trade.
According to Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith, the Blue Jays have traded infielder Leo Jimenez to the Miami Marlins. Francys Romero then reported that the Marlins sent Dub Gleed and $250,000 in international bonus pool money to the Blue Jays to land Jimenez.
The Blue Jays designated Jimenez for assignment ahead of Opening Day after he did not make the major league roster. Now, with this trade, Jimenez is heading to the Marlins.
Jimenez appeared in 18 games during this past season with the Blue Jays, where he had zero home runs, one RBI, two walks, and a .069 batting average. This was after he had four home runs, 11 doubles, 19 RBIs, and a .229 batting average in 63 games for the Blue Jays during the 2024 season.
Jimenez will now be looking to break out and cement himself as a full-time major league player at this trade with the Marlins. The 24-year-old has the potential to be a solid pickup for Miami, and it will be interesting to see how much of an impact he can make from here.
