Before the game, the Braves announced that they had made a trade with the Los Angeles Angels.

The Braves wrote: “The #Braves today acquired RHP Víctor Mederos from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for international bonus pool money, and optioned him to Triple-A Gwinnett. To make room on the 40-man roster, the club transferred RHP AJ Smith-Shawver to the 60-day injured list.”

Mederos has played 12 games for the Angels across the last three seasons.

He is 0-3 with an 8.53 ERA.

Here’s what people were saying about the trade:

  Red Sox Steal 6-Foot-6 Righty From Astros’ Elite Pitching Pipeline

@CrosbyBaseball: “Former top ten-ish prospect of the Angels who was a 6th-rounder in 2022 out of Oklahoma State. Mid-90s fastball with a slider, sweeper, changeup, and a splitter. Extremely East-and-West attack profile on a pitch plot. Has 25.1 career MLB innings with 22 Ks”

@BeaneaterB: “Dude throws hard, has an option so they can tinker with him and see what they can get.”

Jeff Fletcher: “This means the Angels knew Mederos would be claimed so instead of losing him on waivers they got something for him.”

@LockedOnAngels:Victor Mederos traded to the Braves after his DFA earlier this week. With how well the international signings have gone for the Angels, this feels like the best possible outcome (dependent on the money involved of course).”

@StatsFarm: “Mederos is no longer prospect eligible but put up a 3.39 ERA over 16 starts in AAA in 2025.”

@RonaldsGoat: “Classic Braves angels trade lol”

@vernebert: “Angels and Rockies seem to be the only teams AA can make trade with.”

@memphiscds: “The Braves/Angels pipeline continues to stay open and not sure it helps either.”

@WesleyRobe68228: “Not impressed 12G, 0-3 W/L, ERA 8.53, IP 25.1, SO 22, WHIP 2.01”
