Trade Leak Suggests Jonathan Greenard Is Heading to the NFC East

The Jonathan Greenard trade saga is one of the more interesting side-plots of the 2026 NFL Draft, with the selection process set to go underway in just a few hours time.

The former Houston Texan asked to be traded from the Minnesota Vikings due to desires to be paid more than the $19 million he is set to receive in 2026 and 2027. The franchise were open to said idea, partially due to the fact that already sport and excellent edge rushing duo of Andrew Van Ginkel and former first round pick Dallas Turner, with the desired draft compensation priced at a Day 2 pick (rounds 2 – 3).

However, reports surfaced on Wednesday that Minnesota was looking to recoup something in the range of a mid-second round pick, with their own 49th pick in the 2026 draft looked at as a reference for what they would be looking to receive. Pick 60 or equivalent was seen as the floor of what the franchise would be willing to accept, according to The Athletic’s Alec Lewis.

Yet, on the day of the draft itself – as the last ditch attempts for the Vikings to recoup compensation for Greenard in this year’s draft, as opposed to having to wait another 12 months – new information has arisen suggesting that Minnesota has already agreed to a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles to trade the Pro Bowl defensive end.

Per Ollie Connolly of The Read-Optional, the Eagles are trading for Jonathan Greenard, as he says on the podcast alongside Jon Ledyard.

As Connolly notes on the episode, he appeared to be unaware that the Greenard trade was breaking news and had not been announced yet.

Are The Eagles Trading for Jonathan Greenard?

As of 5pm EST on Thursday, no trade has been announced or processed for the former third round pick. Given the formerly listed trade parameters coming in at around the second round mark, it would make more sense if Philadelphia announced the trade on or near the pick.

It could also be that whilst a deal is in place to trade for Greenard, the Eagles are waiting until Day 1 unfolds before finalizing the deal. If they find themselves picking an edge rusher who they otherwise didn’t imagine would fall to them such as Rueben Bain Jr., the trade may end up getting nixed.

But at this point it appears that all signs are pointing to Philadelphia giving up some trade compensation – either #54 or #68, for the edge rusher.
