Bannon further reported a statement made by Toronto’s skipper John Schneider.

“It’s tough to lose the whole year of at bats, reps, performance,” said Schneider. “We were counting on him, obviously, to be a big part of our team. You can see how much you miss him, for sure.”

Bannon notes that Barger will undergo surgery on Monday, July 27, with Dr. Meister.

The 26-year-old’s last Major League appearance took place on May 9 when the Blue Jays faced the Los Angeles Angels.

When Barger’s news broke, the MLB world took to social media to weigh in on the matter.

Here’s what the baseball community is saying on X:

@KeeganMatheson: “News: Addison Barger will undergo surgery on his right elbow. This could be a full Tommy John, which would come with an estimated 9-month rehab and cut into next season. If only an internal brace procedure is needed, that’s estimated closer to 6 months. #BlueJays.”

@thehazelmae: “Addison Barger’s going to have surgery Monday on his elbow, and will be out for the season. John Schneider is not sure yet if it’s full Tommy John or the internal brace. TJ would put him out 9 months, brace [6] months…”

@TalkinBaseball_: “Addison Barger will undergo elbow surgery that will likely keep him sidelined into 2027, per @bnicholsonsmith. Barger played just nine games this season, going 1-for-22.”

They follow behind the Baltimore Orioles (50-53), the Boston Red Sox (52-49), the New York Yankees (57-45) and the Tampa Bay Rays (59-43).

The Blue Jays just wrapped up their series against the Rays, and now they’re gearing up to face the Red Sox for a three-game set at Fenway Park.

Following this stretch, Toronto will head to Nationals Park for a set against the Washington Nationals.

As the Blue Jays wrap up their July schedule, the ballclub is preparing for the upcoming Aug. 3 MLB trade deadline.
