Timberwolves Will Make Important Decision After Beating Nuggets

With the Minnesota Timberwolves consistently performing well in the tough Western Conference, members of their front office have consistently been on the radar of other teams.

The 2025-2026 season hasn’t been any different. As the Timberwolves advance to the second round of the 2026 NBA Playoffs, the organization is expecting a request from the Dallas Mavericks to speak with the President of Basketball Operations, Tim Connelly.

However, the Mavericks aren’t optimistic about getting a chance.

According to Marc Stein, there has been a “growing resignation in Dallas that permission to speak with the Wolves’ Tim Connelly in search of a new head of basketball operations is unlikely to be granted.”

While that’s not a guarantee, all signs are pointing to the Mavericks being forced to look elsewhere.

Tim Connelly’s Journey To Minnesota

Before landing with the Wolves, Connelly worked in the front office of the Washington Wizards and the New Orleans Hornets.

The Denver Nuggets offered Connelly a President of Basketball Operations job in 2013. He was highly successful, building the core of their championship team. In 2023, Connelly landed with the Timberwolves on a massive contract.

The Mavericks aren’t the first team to attempt to poach Connelly from the Wolves. Two offseasons ago, the Detroit Pistons gave it a shot. The attempt was unsuccessful, which led the Pistons to pluck Trajan Langdon from the New Orleans Pelicans.

There’s a sour taste in Dallas due to the front office.

The Nico Harrison era caused a massive uproar, as Harris traded away Luka Doncic not even one year after an NBA Finals run.

Although the Mavericks hoped that Anthony Davis would bring a different, but more valuable skill set to the table for Dallas, that plan fell flat. Davis struggled to stay healthy, and didn’t seem all the way in on the Mavs. Eventually, the Mavericks fired Harrison, and traded away Davis.

A front office search has been underway, and Connelly is a good start. However, the Mavs are unlikely to land him at this time.
