Tiger Woods Weighs In on Brooks Koepka and TGL: ‘Who Knows?’

Brooks Koepka may have already opened his season at Torrey Pines, but his return to the PGA Tour is still dominating the golf conversation. Many are wondering what Koepka’s next steps will be in his new phase on the American circuit, and even Tiger Woods has not escaped the interest surrounding the topic.

Woods was in the building at the SoFi Center on Monday, witnessing his Jupiter Links Golf Club clinch its first‑ever TGL victory. After the win over defending champions Atlanta Golf Club, the 15-time major winner participated in the post-match press conference, and questions about Koepka were quick to follow.

Koepka, a West Palm Beach native who now calls Jupiter home, naturally emerges as a potential fit for Woods’ TGL franchise, which represents the same community. But Woods emphasized that no talks have taken place about the former LIV standout’s future in the league, let alone a move to Jupiter Links.

“I don’t know that part yet,” Woods said during the post-match press conference. “Brooks just got his feet wet being back on our Tour again at Torrey (Pines), and he’s playing Waste Management (Phoenix Open) this week. We’ve got one new team next year, and should have two. I don’t know when it’s going to be sewn up or not. But who knows.”

What Woods did make clear, however, was how pleased he is with his team’s current roster.

“If Brooks is going to be on a team or not on a team, but we have a great team here,” he said. “My boys here, we’ve had so much fun going back and forth, and these group texts are just awesome.”

The current roster for Jupiter Links Golf Club consists of Woods himself, Max Homa, Kevin Kissner, and Tom Kim, with Akshay Bhatia as the reserve player. Bhatia has been filling in for Kim at the start of this season.

Woods has also been unable to play in his team’s first matches because he has not yet completed his recovery from back surgery he underwent last October. Although he has appeared to be in good shape in his most recent public appearances, the 82-time PGA Tour winner confirmed that he is not yet ready to play.

“Playing here? (at TGL), I don’t know,” he said. “I like watching these guys. As far as competitive golf, it’s still some time.”

How did Koepka fare in his return to the PGA Tour?

Koepka teed off his season at the Farmers Insurance Open, where he finished tied for 56th with a 72-hole score of 4-under 284. It wasn’t a comeback for the ages, but no one should be surprised by that.

Torrey Pines has always been a tough nut to crack for Koepka. Before this weekend, he had played there only five times, missing the cut three times. He placed fourth in the 2021 U.S. Open, a tournament played exclusively on the South Course. But in four prior appearances at the Farmers, which rotates between the North and South courses, he missed three cuts and never did better than T41.
