Following a Monday night loss to Los Angeles Golf Club, Tiger Woods and his Jupiter Links squad made a major announcement. Speaking with ESPN after the match, Woods confirmed he will return to competition on Tuesday, March 24, for the second match of the TGL Finals.
The news immediately sparked renewed speculation surrounding the 15-time major champion. Including whether Woods might make another appearance at Augusta National Golf Club in pursuit of his sixth green jacket at the The Masters Tournament.
Tiger Woods Confirms Return to Competition
Woods has led Team Jupiter throughout their 2026 season but has been sidelined from actually competing due to back surgery. In October 2025, he revealed he underwent an L4-L5 disc replacement procedure on his lumbar spine to address pain and limited mobility.
In his absence, Jupiter Links turned to Akshay Bhatia as an alternate. However, the recent winner of The Players Championship is competing this week in New Delhi at the Hero Indian Open, leaving the spot open for Woods to fill.
Woods has been working toward a return all season, but acknowledged the challenges of recovery.
“I think that I have been trying to play each and every one of these matches,” Woods told ESPN at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. “I’ve been trying to come back. But it just hasn’t worked out that way. I’ve had a bad run of injuries last year.”
“I think it’s been a year and a few days since I blew out my Achilles. And so then I’ve had two back operations. So it’s been a little rough go. But the guys here, this team, we have so much fun, I really don’t want to screw up the lineup, I just want these guys to keep playing.”
His return comes at a critical point in the TGL season, with Jupiter Links looking to stay alive in the best-of-three final series. A victory on Tuesday would force a third and final match immediately after, raising the stakes for Woods’ return to competition.
Masters Talk
Woods has not competed in an official PGA Tour event since The Open Championship in 2024. However, he has yet to rule out a return at the The Masters Tournament in 2026. If he were to tee off, it would mark the 27th Masters start of his career.
Now 50, Woods is a five-time Masters champion. Most memorably, he captured his latest victory in 2019 at the age of 43 in one of the most celebrated comebacks in sports history.
After an Achilles rupture and multiple back surgeries, questions remain about how competitive he can be. Still, Woods has kept fans guessing by neither confirming nor denying his participation at Augusta National Golf Club. Recent reports of his private jet at Augusta’s airport only fueled speculation. However, Woods is expected to attend the traditional Champions Dinner.
TGL Finals Matchup
Jupiter Links will face L.A. again on Tuesday at the SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. This will be the second match of the TGL Finals. If Jupiter wins, a decisive third match will follow immediately.
With Woods returning, he is listed to compete alongside Tom Kim and Max Homa. They will take on Justin Rose, Sahith Theegala, and Tommy Fleetwood of Los Angeles Golf Club at 7:00 p.m. ET.
Whatever unfolds this week at TGL, fans will certainly be eager to see Woods back in competition once again.
