Taylor Swift’s Music Catalog May Find a New Home

The Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are planning their wedding together, and even though one of the biggest moments for Swift and Kelce last year was getting engaged, the singer had another milestone.

Back in May of 2025, Swift took to her Instagram page share the news that she had officially bought back her music catalog. “You belong with me,” Swift shared with a range of colorful heart emojis.

So, Swift has her music back, but she’s also on a record label, Universal Music Group. It’s also the home to Sabrina Carpenter and Kendrick Lamar. Now, the label has received a takeover offer estimated to be worth $64.3 billion.

Taylor Swift’s Record Label Has Interest From Other Party

According to a Wednesday, April 8 report from the BBC, U.S. investment company Pershing Square is offering to buy Universal in a merger that would still have the company listed in America. “As well as representing a huge list of artists, the world’s largest music company also runs Abbey Road studios and owns labels such as EMI and Island Records,” Jemma Crew of the BBC reports.

“Universal said it had received Pershing’s proposal,” the report adds, “and would assess its implications for shareholders, employees, artists, songwriters and other stakeholders.”

Of the deal, Pershing Square billionaire chief executive Bill Ackman said in a statement that management had “done an excellent job nurturing and continuing to build a world-class artist roster and generating strong business performance.”

Ackman also said, according to the BBC, that “the company’s stock price had ‘languished’ due to issues unrelated to the performance of its music business, which could all be ‘addressed with this transaction.’”

Taylor Swift Was Excited to Share the News of Getting Her Masters Back With the World

When Swift first announced the news that she had her masters back, he took to social media in an excited post.

“Hi. I’m trying to gather my thoughts into something coherent, but right now my mind is just a slideshow,” Swift shared as a handwritten note. “A flashback sequence of all the times I daydreamed about, wished for, and pined away for a chance to get to tell you this news. All the times I was thiiiiiiiiiiiiis close, reaching out for it, only for it to fall through.”

She continued, “I almost stopped thinking it could ever happen, after 20 years of having the carrot dangled then yanked away. But that’s all in the past now.” She added in the note, “I’ve been bursting into tears of joy at random intervals ever since I found out that this is really happening. I really get to say these words: All of the music I’ve ever made… now belongs… to me.”

Swift added that “to say this is my greatest dream come true is actually being pretty reserved about it. To my fans, you know how important this has been to me — so much so that I meticulously re-recorded and released 4 of my albums, calling them Taylor’s Version.”

Now, Swift waits to see if her record label comes under new ownership. But, more importantly, she and Kelce are also counting down the days until they say, “I do.”
