Taylor Swift Sends Heartfelt Message Amid Travis Kelce Retirement Decision

Taylor Swift never seemed like the sporty type, but that changed when she met Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who’s now her future husband. Now, Swift knows all about football, and she’s a regular at Chiefs games, her most recent being the team’s Christmas Day game on December 25, 2025, at Arrowhead Stadium, where the Chiefs took on the Denver Broncos and lost with a 20-13 final score.

Now, Swift is more than a musician. She’s also something of a sports enthusiast. Of course, she still releases new music, her latest being her 12th studio album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” which dropped on October 3, 2025. But, she also appreciates the discipline and strength it takes to be an athlete.

With that in mind, as Kelce is making his retirement decision and deciding if he wants to stay in the NFL for one more year, Swift is honoring athletes around the globe. On Friday, February 6, Swift took to social media to send out a special message to those athletes.

Taylor Swift Appreciates the ‘Hard Work’ of Athletes

On Friday, NBC shared a video message from Swift addressing the Olympians at the 2026 Winter Games. In a pre-recorded video, Swift said, “I just wanted to say, ‘thank you.’”

“Getting to learn your stories and see everything that you’ve sacrificed and all your determination and hard work and passion and everything that’s gotten you to this point where you’re so excellent at something, it’s just really inspiring,” she added.

“I am very grateful for everything you’ve done to get to this point in your life and grateful you brought us all along with you on this journey so that we get to watch you do this,” Swift continued. “I just hope that you have a wonderful Olympic games. Wishing you all the best of luck and a safe journey and I hope that this is an experience that you will cherish for the rest of your life.”

The message came a few hours after Swift released her official music video for “Opalite” on Spotify and Apple Music.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Skipped a Music Event

Of course, Swift and Kelce can’t be everywhere, all the time, and the two skipped the 2026 Grammys, which makes sense, because Swift wasn’t up for any awards at this year’s event. The reason she wasn’t nominated for “The Life of a Showgirl” is because the set was released after the deadline to be included in the nominations for this year’s roster of honors.

So, Swift will likely be up for Grammy Awards at next year’s event for “The Life of a Showgirl.” Throughout her career, Swift has won 14 Grammy Awards and has been nominated 58 times, according to Grammy research.

Upon releasing “The Life of a Showgirl” in October, the album became the fastest-selling album of all time in the U.S. and spent 12 weeks on top of the Billboard 200 chart, according to Billboard research.

“I’ll never forget how excited I was in 2006 when my first album sold 40,000 copies in its first week,” Swift wrote on social media after it dropped. “Here we are all these years later and a hundred times that many people showed up for me this week.”
