Taylor Swift wasn’t at Super Bowl LX, and now, news is surfacing about why she skipped the event. Her future husband, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, of course, was at the game and was spotted by cameras on the field, enjoying the NFL action.
So, Kelce didn’t make it to the Super Bowl as a player, but he was there as a fan of football. Kelce also attended the NFL Honors on Thursday, February 5, which was part of Super Bowl week in San Francisco. He was there without Taylor Swift, because he was nominated for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award, which recognizes an NFL player for his excellence on and off the field.
The award, according to the NFL’s official website, was established in 1970 and was renamed in 1999 after the late Hall of Fame running back, Walter Payton. Each team gets to nominate “one player who has had a significant positive impact on his community,” according to the NFL, “with one winner selected from the 32 club winners.”
So, Swift wasn’t at the Super Bowl with Kelce, and she also skipped NFL Honors. Why did she miss those events? A report from Elle sheds light on in.

In a report out on Monday, February 9, immediately following the Super Bowl Elle magazine reports that Swift likely didn’t attend the big game for security reasons. That totally makes sense, because she’s only been attending Kansas City Chiefs home games, due to security concerns.
“While Swift and Kelce are both football fans, the singer didn’t attend any of Kelce’s away games during the regular season, in large part due to the security risk—a factor that might have influenced her decision to seemingly not attend last night,” Elle reported.
Swift and Kelce were last photographed together on January 12, eating dinner in Beverly Hills. So, it’s been a minute since fans have seen them together in public.

In an interview with GQ magazine in August 2025, Kelce talked about enjoying being out in public with Swift. “I love being the happiest guy in the world all the… time,” he said in the interview. “When you see me hanging out at the US Open with Taylor, it may look like the two of us are partying, but I’m just enjoying the fun of being at this really cool event that I always wanted to go to with the person that I love.”
Kelce added, “Whenever I get in front of a crowd, I feel like I’ve got to be like, Woooo. Like, excited, bringing the energy. Then I saw that coolness and that calmness and that relatability that she is so good at presenting. I really grabbed that.”
He continued, “Like, Man, I can use that side of entertainment as well. It’s not just always being the guy that brings the energy and creates these exciting moments.”
