Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Get Blunt Reaction From Unexpected Source

Hot off Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s red carpet debut as an engaged couple, at Thursday’s iHeartRadio Music Awards, the couple — and Swift in particular — received a blunt take on their relationship and her music from another famous public personality who would seem to be an unlikely source.

When a celebrity reaches the level of popularity that Taylor Swift has, it becomes far less surprising that everyone has an opinion on everything that celebrity does. But this time, the views came from the king of the “manosphere,” and host of one of the most popular podcasts currently being produced — significantly more popular than Kelce’s own highly successful New Heights podcast — Joe Rogan, host of The Joe Rogan Experience podcast.

Rogan, a 58-year-old former stand-up comedian and current color commentator on UFC mixed martial arts broadcasts, signed a contract with the streaming service Spotify in 2024 reportedly worth up to $250 million to host his podcast.

Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end and likely future Hall of Famer, and his brother — retired Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce — received a $100 million contract from Amazon to produce and host New Heights.

What Did Joe Rogan Say About Swift and Kelce?

Rogan seems like an unlikely source to comment on Swift’s music, not to mention on her relationship with Kelce. His podcast, which ranks as the most downloaded podcast in the world, according to Edison Research (Kelce’s New Heights ranks No. 10), is considered the most prominent mainstream entry into the genre known as the “manosphere.”

“The term broadly refers to online communities that create and share content aimed at men and boys,” explained commentator John Yang. “But there’s growing concern about the ideas behind that content — misogynistic, often conspiratorial beliefs about gender roles and masculinity.”

That description does not appear to align with Swift’s public persona. But as he revealed on his Tuesday episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan himself is a Swift fan and defended her music from critics, many of whom are likely listeners to his podcast.

“People are so weird when they want to say something sucks. I was having an argument with someone who goes, ‘Taylor Swift’s all dumb music.’ I said, ‘No, it’s not! She’s got some great songs. ‘No Body, No Crime’ is a f****** great song,’” Rogan said on the podcast.

Rogan then turned his criticism back on Swift’s detractors.

“Do you think you’re smarter than everybody who loves her?” he asked. “She literally has more fans than anybody alive, and you think they’re all wrong? That’s kind of crazy. You don’t have to like it, but people can be so closed-minded.”

What Did Rogan Say About Swift and Kelce’s Relationship?

But the globally popular podcaster did not stop at offering his opinions on Swift’s music. He also addressed her relationship with Kelce, and his views were, perhaps surprisingly, supportive.

“It’s interesting when you have a public relationship like that — two super-famous people. That’s a lot of pressure. You’re putting it all out there for the world, and everybody’s judging you. It’s hard enough to keep a relationship together without having to field everyone’s opinions,” Rogan said. “They’re doing it all in front of the world, inviting the worst people to have opinions about them. That’s a lot of pressure.”

Perhaps not surprisingly, however, Rogan and his guest — comedian Jeff Ross — also engaged in more irreverent speculation about the couple.

“I wonder when they make love if they wear helmets — those two,” Ross said. “It’s got to be wild, Travis and Taylor.”

Rogan responded by saying that he hoped Swift and Kelce were “so sweet and passionate” with each other, while joking that they might wear “shoulder pads. Cleats.”
