Swedish Curling Team Isabella and Rasmus Wranå: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Isabella Wranå and Rasmus Wranå are Swedish Olympic curlers competing for gold in mixed doubles at the 2026 Winter Olympics. The sibling duo has already made history by reaching the Olympic final in their first appearance together in the discipline. Here’s what you need to know.

1. Isabella and Rasmus Wranå Are Olympic Finalists in Mixed Doubles

After a demanding Olympic tournament that included 45 round-robin matches and two semifinals, the Wranå siblings advanced to the mixed doubles gold medal game. Sweden earned its place in the final with a dominant 9–3 semifinal victory over Great Britain, the top seed from round-robin play.

The siblings entered the playoffs with a 5–4 record, finishing fourth in the standings. Their semifinal performance marked one of their strongest outings of the event and secured a rematch with the United States, who edged Sweden 8–7 in round-robin play earlier in the week.

2. Isabella Wranå Is Making Her Olympic Debut

At 28 years old, Isabella is competing in her first Olympic Games. Despite being new to the Olympic stage, she is no stranger to high-pressure competition.

“It’s cool to be able to play and write Swedish sports history together with my brother,” Isabella said. “If we had known this when we started curling — that we would play in the Olympics together — I think we would have been proud, and we are now too.”

Isabella throws the first and last stones in mixed doubles, a role that requires precision and composure.

“I would describe my role as relatively similar to my usual position,” she said. “It’s natural for me to be in the house.”

3. Rasmus Wranå Brings Olympic Experience to the Team

Rasmus, 25, entered the 2026 Games with Olympic experience already on his résumé. He previously competed with Sweden’s men’s team under skip Niklas Edin, winning gold in 2022 and silver in 2018.

He credits the siblings’ preparation for their Olympic run.

“Just the right amount of competition and training,” Rasmus said to the Swedish Herald. “We’ve managed to get many opportunities to train with each other.”

In mixed doubles, Rasmus throws the majority of the stones and focuses on reading the ice.

“I have to keep track of the lines and speeds,” he explained.

4. Isabella and Rasmus Wranå Are Reigning World Champions

The Wranå siblings won the 2024 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship on home ice in Östersund, Sweden. The victory established them as one of the discipline’s top teams and set expectations heading into the Olympics.

Mixed doubles has been an Olympic event since 2018, and Sweden won bronze in 2022. This gold medal appearance marks the country’s best finish in the discipline.

“It gets tougher and tougher with each Olympics that goes by,” Isabella said.

5. The Wranå Siblings Are Competing With Rare Olympic Equipment

Olympic curling stones are made from granite sourced from Ailsa Craig, a small island off the coast of Scotland. Each stone weighs nearly 20 kilograms and is crafted to strict standards.

“The stones we will play with are brand new,” Rasmus said. “But they will probably be of a very good standard.”
