Suspected measles case reported in Broomfield

Officials are investigating a suspected measles case in Broomfield on Friday.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and Broomfield Public Health and Environment are investigating the case, according to a city and county of Broomfield release. Right now, there is only one confirmed case of measles in Colorado, according to the health department’s dashboard.

Information about where in Broomfield the measles case was reported was not available.

This past weekend, one person was confirmed to have measles in the state after they visited Denver International Airport and attended a church service in Littleton, according to Colorado health officials.

Measles is a highly infectious but preventable disease with symptoms that can include fever, cough, runny nose and red eyes, according to state health officials. Those symptoms are sometimes followed several days later by a rash on the face that spreads.

Getting vaccinated within 72 hours of exposure may prevent measles or reduce the severity of symptoms, state officials said following the confirmed case.
