Super Bowl LVIII: 49ers make final roster moves

LAS VEGAS – Just over 24 hours from Super Bowl LVIII, the 49ers walked off the UNLV practice field for a final time Saturday, after an hour walk-through practice.

One last batch of roster moves followed, and they all revolved around a defensive line that will try to dethrone Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.

T.Y. McGill and Alex Barrett were elevated from the practice squad. Defensive tackle Kalia Davis was ruled out, after practicing for two weeks as the 49ers considered springing him off Injured Reserve.

“Our guys are ready to go,” coach Kyle Shanahan told pool reporter Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post. “They’re relaxed. They’ll relax a little this afternoon, have our last meetings tonight and we’ll be ready to go.”

The Chiefs’ finished up their week-long residency at the Raiders’ complex by holding a 27-minute “mock game” practice. “We’ve got a short day tomorrow with the earlier (3:30 p.m. PT) game. It’s not a night game, which is good,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid told pool reporter Peter King of NBC Sports. “The guys practiced fast. They were accurate with their assignments. I was pleased with what I saw. I think they’re ready to go play.”

All-Pro left guard Joe Thuney (pectoral) was ruled out and will be replaced by Nick Allegretti, who started in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl win four years ago against the 49ers.
