Suns’ Devin Booker Blames Spurs Star For Injury In Loss

During the final moments of the Phoenix Suns’ tight loss against the San Antonio Spurs, the star guard Devin Booker suffered a slight setback.

After the game, Suns head coach Jordan Ott announced that Booker “did something” to his ankle on the final shot, which was a half-court heave.

The Suns will monitor Booker’s ankle moving forward, but the star guard hinted he should be fine. Rather than expanding on his setback, Booker claimed he was tripped on the game’s final play.

When it comes to the ankle injury, Booker told the Arizona Central’s Duane Rankin it’s “alright.”

As far as the explanation goes, the star guard blamed Spurs star De’Aaron Fox for tripping him.

“It’s a trip,” Booker said, via Rankin. “De’Aaron (Fox’s) foot was there. I stepped on his foot. Probably a tough angle for the refs to see.”

Spurs fans on social media pushed back on Booker’s claim.

“Stepping on someone’s foot on purpose to try to draw a foul is not a ‘trip.’ Nice try,” mwwillis said on X.

“Great no-call on that last play, especially since the whistle was his best friend all night,” Zeke10284722 stated on X.

“A trip or did you step on his foot?” FrankHart40 asked.

“There’s literally a bunch of angles, and that did not happen,” in_diana_joness added.

Tough Times For Phoenix

“It’s like the last three or four, whatever it is. We’ve shown fight. We’ve been right there to the end. Just felt short,” Booker said, regarding another tight loss for the Suns on Thursday night.

In the matchup against the second-seeded Spurs, Booker checked in for 34 minutes. He shot 8-21 from the field and went 6-7 from the free-throw line to score 22 points.

The veteran guard dished out five assists, but he turned the ball over four times as well. He was a minus-12 on the court for the Suns.

Despite a somewhat off-night for Booker, the Suns were in a position to win. Unfortunately for them, they took a 101-100 loss. Now, they are 39-31 on the year, as the Spurs improve to 52-18, getting one step closer to the Oklahoma City Thunder’s first seed.

Where The Suns Stand

With four losses in a row and just five wins over the last 10 games, the Suns are sitting seventh in the Western Conference.

The sixth seed isn’t out of the question for Phoenix. They trail the Denver Nuggets and the Houston Rockets by 3.0 games.

As far as the Play-In’s top seed goes, the Suns are 5.0 games in front of the Los Angeles Clippers. They are in a good position to host the Western Conference’s battle for the seventh seed if that’s where they finish.

The Suns are set to take on the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday, March 21. The status of Devin Booker is unclear.
