Stephen Curry Discloses Whether he Wants Steve Kerr to Keep Coaching the Warriors

The Golden State Warriors do not have Steve Kerr under contract next season. For the first time since coaching Golden State, his future is unclear. Kerr has been the head coach of the franchise for the last 12 seasons.

It is well-documented that Kerr is close with Stephen Curry. Kerr has been very clear about the fact that he owes a lot of his success to Curry. They have won four championships together. Now, Curry might not have Kerr on the sidelines with him, coaching the team.

Curry recently revealed his feelings on the situation and whether or not he wants Kerr to keep coaching the Warriors.

Stephen Curry Wants Steve Kerr to Return to the Warriors

While speaking to The Athletic, Curry revealed that he is hoping to make another run next season with Kerr in tow.

“I want Coach to be happy,” Curry said. “I want him to be excited about the job. I want him to believe he’s the right guy for the job. I want him to have an opportunity to enjoy what he does. So whatever that means for him, everybody’s plan is their own, and I’m not gonna try to tell anybody what to do.”

“He knows how I feel about him. That shouldn’t even need to be said. However it goes, you’re thankful for what we’ve been able to accomplish over this run. Thankful for the opportunity to hopefully do something again next year.”

Kerr has only ever coached the Warriors. He was the GM of the Phoenix Suns from 2007 until 2010. It seems unlikely that Kerr would be the head coach of another organization in the NBA next season. Reports indicate he will either be coaching the Warriors or on TV next season.

Curry has only ever played for two coaches in his long career. Other than Kerr, he was coached by Mark Jackson for the first few years he was in Golden State. At this stage in his career, Curry would certainly prefer some continuity as his career dwindles to the end.

Stephen Curry Will Have a Say in Who Golden State Hires if Kerr Leaves

If the Warriors do have to search for a new coach, Curry will have a major say in who is hired. He is the face of the franchise, even if he only has a few years left in the NBA. Adding a superstar in the offseason would certainly help extend Curry’s offensive abilities.

There will be multiple stars that the Warriors pursue in the offseason. Curry will be involved in all of the decision-making this summer. Kerr seems on the fence about whether or not he will be back in Golden State, so the Warriors need to keep Curry happy if Kerr doesn’t return.

This will likely be a decision that his made before the end of the playoffs.
