Steelers WR a ‘Slam-Dunk’ to Make Final Roster Says Insider

The Pittsburgh Steelers are on the cusp of a very significant season in their history. Not only have they switched head coaches, but it will be the final season of legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers‘ career. That is why the organization has pushed its chips to the center of the table. Of course, every player who ends up making the final roster will be called upon to own their role.

One of the players who could have a 50-50 shot at making the roster is veteran wide receiver Roman Wilson. However, insider Mark Kaboly not only believes that Wilson should be seen as a lock to make the roster, but he could be a nice asset this year.

The Pittsburgh Steelers Need an Explosion From Roman Wilson

GettyRoman Wilson has just 12 career catches in two NFL seasons.

Here is what Kaboly had to say about the prospect of Wilson making the final 53-man roster this summer:

“Honestly, I don’t see a scenario where he won’t make the team. He might actually be the WR3 to start the season. Wilson is a monster practice player and impresses every time he steps out onto the field at the team facility or training camp. Add that to the fact that the depth really isn’t very good, and Wilson is a slam-dunk 53-man roster guy.”

It is time for the former Michigan Wolverine to come alive in the NFL. His first two NFL seasons have been disappointing after Pittsburgh drafted him in the third round in 2024. He didn’t catch a single pass as a rookie while battling injuries. Then he caught 12 passes for 166 yards and two touchdowns this past season. Despite the team drafting Alabama receiver Germie Bernard in the second round of this year’s NFL Draft, Wilson has been in the building much longer and could start the year off in the slot for McCarthy and Co.

The Steelers’ Suspect WR Depth

Michael Pittman Stats

For the second consecutive season, the Steelers traded for a big-bodied pass-catcher. After trading for Pro Bowl receiver DK Metcalf in 2025, Steelers GM Omar Khan pulled the trigger on a trade for two-time 1,000-yard receiver Michael Pittman Jr. However, the talent drops off after those two, which is why Wilson could end up being the team’s third wide receiver on the depth chart to start the season out. After Wilson, there is the rookie in Bernard and veteran special-teeamer Ben Skowronek.

One of those guys on the lower end of the depth chart is going to have to emerge. Last season, Pittsburgh only had one wide receiver eclipse 500 yards (Metcalf). Rodgers, in his age-43 season, will not be able to do it alone. If one of those lower-end receivers can step up, and the tight end room can be productive, Pittsburgh should have a very dangerous offense. When the personnel are capable, and the relationship between Rodgers and McCarthy is flying high, the team is in a great spot.
