The Pittsburgh Steelers enter the 2026 offseason with plenty of moves to make, but arguably the biggest decision will be how they address the quarterback position, as 42-year-old veteran Aaron Rodgers is increasingly unlikely to return next season.
If Rodgers does not return, Pittsburgh could turn to the 2026 NFL Draft to select their next quarterback.
Alex Kay of Bleacher Report named the Steelers as one of two teams considered the âbest landing spotâ for Miami quarterback Carson Beck, along with the Los Angeles Rams.
“Assuming Rodgers elects to retire or chooses to play a 22nd NFL season elsewhere following Tomlin’s departure, the Steelers currently lack a viable replacement. Longtime backup Mason Rudolph and fifth-round rookie Will Howard were the depth options behind Rodgers in 2025, but neither profiles as a long-term solution to the team’s QB woes,” wrote Kay.
Beck is projected as a mid-round pick, which could benefit Pittsburgh, since the team will likely want to address other needs, including wide receiver, earlier in the draft.
“Beck would be an ideal mid-round pick to compete with Howard for the QB1 role in 2026. He offers a unique blend of experience and traits that a team like the Steelers should be happy to roll the dice on with a late-Day 2 or early-Day 3 pick in order to give them a shot at a competent starter without needing to reach for a fringe first-rounder on Day 1 or execute a costly trade up,” wrote Kay.

Breaking Down Beckâs Fit in Pittsburgh
As Kay mentioned, if the Steelers draft Beck, there is no guarantee he would start, as a quarterback competition would likely take place between Will Howard and Beck. Still, Beckâs upside, combined with where he is projected on draft boards and Pittsburghâs uncertainty at quarterback, could make him worth a shot for the Steelers.
“Beck has ideal size for an NFL quarterback at 6-4, and he doesn’t hold onto the ball too long. The ability to process a defense quickly and make a throw is more often seen in veteran quarterbacks, so Beck shouldn’t have as difficult of a time transitioning to the next level,” wrote Dan Treacy of Yahoo Sports.
Beck, 23, had an impressive final collegiate season with Miami, throwing for 3,813 yards, 30 touchdowns, and posting an 81.8 QBR, according to ESPN.
The reality is the Steelers could be a team to watch at draft time for Beck, as the Miami quarterback could be intriguing enough for a team to spend a mid-round pick on him, especially if Pittsburgh decides to address other positions early in the draft while also foregoing a veteran quarterback in the offseason.

Other Potential Quarterback Options
There is definitely a possibility that the Steelers bring in a veteran quarterback, especially considering the team is coming off a playoff appearance and a division title.
The top free agent quarterbacks for the 2026 offseason include Daniel Jones (Indianapolis Colts) and Malik Willis (Green Bay Packers), among several other names.
In the trade market, players such as Kyler Murray (Arizona Cardinals) and Mac Jones (San Francisco 49ers) could potentially be made available.
There is also a scenario in which the Steelers use their 21st overall pick in the draft to select a quarterback. Alabamaâs Ty Simpson could be the choice if Pittsburgh decides to address the position that high in the draft.
