Steelers Duo Named One of the Best at Their Position

After the Pittsburgh Steelers‘ recent trade for 1,000-yard wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. in the early window of free agency, they could very well have one of the league’s best duos at that position. This is especially true when you consider the fact that he Pittman will now line up on the opposite side of Pro Bowl wide receiver DK Metcalf.

Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton believes that, together, Metcalf and Pittman make up one of the NFL’s top 10 wide receiver duos. He has them slated as the 9th-best receiving duo in front of the Houston Texans‘ Nico Collins and Jayden Higgins.

If future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers decides to return for at least one more NFL season, odds are that he’d be more than happy to toss a lot of passes to both Metcalf and Pittman. Both stand at 6’3″or taller and weigh at least 225 pounds.

Despite having his worst season from a statistical perspective in 2025, Metcalf led the Steelers with 850 receiving yards. He also missed two games, so he could have very easily recorded his fourth career 1,000-yard season. The two-time Pro-Bowler has a great chance to have an even better season in 2026, especially if Rodgers comes back to play with him again.

For Pittman, the former second-round draft pick is coming off a career-high season with seven touchdown catches. In each of the last five seasons in Indianapolis, the former Colt has been targeted over 110 times. Much like Metcalf, the 28-year-old is in his athletic prime and looking to make a major impact on a win-now team.

An Aaron Rodgers Return Could Be Crucial for Both Receivers’ Success in 2026

Few quarterbacks have thrown to more wide receivers over their careers than Aaron Rodgers. From Donald Driver, Greg Jennings, Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, and Davante Adams in Green Bay to Garrett Wilson and Metcalf later in his career, Rodgers has thrown to many great receivers across multiple eras. If he were to come back for one more season, he would be able to throw to one more talented pass-catcher in Pittman.

As talented a young player as second-year quarterback Will Howard may be or as experienced a backup as Mason Rudolph is, neither of those guys is Rodgers. The four-time MVP and Super Bowl champion has seen it all and done it all. His accuracy and arm talent are second to none, which is why it is significant that he could potentially be throwing to the duo of Metcalf and Pittman in 2026.

His familiarity with Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy may also play a role in the success of the offense should he decide to return. Remember, in between 2008 and 2018, the Packers made the playoffs eight times, won five NFC North titles, made three NFC Championship Game appearances, and came out victorious in Super Bowl XLV. All eyes are on Rodgers as he approaches a decision in the next few weeks.
