Spurs Announce Stephon Castle Injury News as Victor Wembanyama Concern Grows

On Monday, the San Antonio Spurs captured their 60th win of the 2025-26 season, but their red-letter day was spoiled.

The Spurs grabbed their first 60-win season in nine years. The last time they did it, the roster featured heirlooms from the dynasty days — Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili. Even Kawhi Leonard was there, slowly unveiling himself as one of the top young players in basketball.

Today, San Antonio again has a top young player in basketball, Victor Wembanyama, who took the air out of the building when he checked out of the game a second time in the first half before subsequently being ruled out for the rest of the game.

The exact severity of Wembanyama’s injury, which is being called a rib contusion, is still being evaluated. Wembanyama underwent an X-ray on the affected area and discovered there was no serious damage. The Spurs big man will undergo further testing over the coming days, reports say.

Wembanyama is listed as doubtful on the injury report ahead of tomorrow’s home game against the San Antonio Spurs.

Spurs Disclose Concerning News on Stephon Castle

Wembanyama’s set-up man, Castle, has suddenly appeared on the injury report.

The 21-year-old Spurs star is having an impressive sophomore season and is leading the team in assists. His constant motor on both sides of the ball and all-out tenacity makes him a fan-favorite. He is still extremely raw and far from his peak, but all the signs of a future star are present.

Castle has dealt with minor injuries here and there this season. Castle actually went down even sooner than Wembanyama did last night. Half-way through the first quarter against the Philadelphia 76ers, the Spurs guard drove down the lane before lobbing a pass for a Wembanyama score. Castle went down as the basketball left his hands and landed awkwardly. He exited the game but returned later.

It is nerve-wracking nonetheless to watch the team’s top two players sustain injuries in the same game, in the same half for that matter.

Castle has also been listed as doubtful tomorrow with right knee soreness.

San Antonio Hoping to Dodge Ill-Timed Injury Trouble

Of course, the Wembanyama situation is what Spurs fans are most concerned with. While the initial takeaways are positive, there is at least some reason to be worried. Wembanyama hasn’t exactly been injury-free this season after he was shut down a year ago due to a blood clot.

Perhaps the Spurs initially aimed to push hard over the final week of the season to push for the top seed in the Western Conference and the NBA, which the Oklahoma City currently possess. While it isn’t impossible for San Antonio to supplant Oklahoma City, the injuries to Wembanyama and Castle, even if they aren’t major, will likely force the team to sit both stars at least a game or two. Plus, the Thunder continue to roll and are showing no signs of letting-up.

More information regarding Wembanyama and Castle injuries will be learned over the coming days. For now, the Spurs are tasked to win without their two stars tomorrow against the Portland Trail Blazers.
