Son Of Hall Of Famer Jeff Kent Thriving In Yankees Farm System

The Yankees farm system has produced and developed an abundance of successful players in previous years, most recently being Cam Schlittler, Ben Rice, and Will Warren. Kaeden Kent, the son of Hall of Fame second baseman Jeff Kent, is currently a middle infielder in the Yankees High A Affiliate, Hudson Valley Renegades, who has had tremendous success up to this point in the Yankees farm.

Kent, who’s listed at 6’2 “200 lbs, is a 22-year-old left-handed hitter who’s posted a .333 average with 3 home runs, 19 RBI, and a .911 OPS in 28 games. Kent was drafted in the third round of the 2025 MLB Draft out of Texas A&M after posting a strong season in collegiate baseball with a .279 batting average, 13 home runs, 49 RBI’s, and a .943 OPS during his junior season.

Kent Has Adjusted Well To Professional Baseball In 2026

Kent struggled in his first taste of professional baseball during his debut late last season after the MLB draft, hitting .186 with 2 home runs, 17 RBI, and a .482 OPS in 25 games. Kent, since then, has seemed to adjust well to High A up to this point in the 2026 season. If he keeps up this production, he could earn a quick promotion to Double-A Somerset in the coming weeks.

Kent is currently listed as the Yankees No. 13-ranked prospect, and per his scouting profile via MLB.com, he is listed as a “high IQ baseball player” with a “nice left-handed swing and the ability to consistently make hard contact”, according to MLB.com’s scouting profile. It does, however, state Kent is a below-average runner, but states his lack of speed is minimized due to his “advanced situational awareness on the bases and in the field”, according to MLB.com’s scouting report profile.

Similarities To His Father’s Playing Style

What’s also worth noting is the inevitable comparison to his father. The MLB.com scouting profile suggests Kent would “best fit” at second base, like his dad, and that his “contact-oriented approach” mirrors his father’s game. Kent’s profile is contact-driven, but he can hit to all fields, which is a plus.

His scouting profile lists, for now, that he’ll remain at shortstop, but long term, he might be better suited to second base. It states on his MLB.com scouting profile that his “arm and defensive range are more suited for second base”, but for the time being, the Yankees are giving him opportunities at shortstop to see how it goes, according to his MLB scouting profile.

But for the time being, this is a name to keep an eye on in the Yankees system, as he climbs the ranks and makes his own name for himself in the Yankees farm system. Kent has worked hard to get to this level in college and has success in professional baseball, and there’s also room for growth in the power department as it relates to his hitting abilities.

MLB’s scouting profile website lists him as potentially being a 15-20 home run bat in the big leagues if he “lifts the ball more”, according to MLB.com. It will be interesting to see how Kent continues to develop in the coming months and years as he thrives in High A Hudson Valley.
