Shelter-in-place order lifted with suspect still at large in Lansing shooting

A shelter-in-place order in south suburban Lansing was lifted Thursday afternoon despite an ongoing manhunt following an earlier shooting at a car paint plant.

Lansing police said the shooting occurred at the Nippon Paint Automotive Americas in the 2700 block of 170th Street around 1 p.m. and they found one person dead at the scene; the male suspect was last seen south of the scene as “numerous” law enforcement agencies worked to find him. Nippon Paint didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

A shelter-in-place order was lifted at 4:10 p.m. but police urged people to “be vigilant” as the suspect remained at large.

Police said the suspect was a man, average in height, weighing about 160 pounds and wearing a black hoodie and do-rag along with a white surgical mask.

“We are reminding residents to be vigilant,” Lansing police said in a statement. “If you see something, say something. If you see someone who matches the description, call 911.”
