Shaun Alexander Sends Seahawks Blunt Message Before NFL Draft

The Seattle Seahawks won’t be making a selection until No. 32, and that’s if they don’t decide to trade back to accumulate more picks. While there are several players who are being mocked to Seattle, former Seahawks star Shaun Alexander is sending a blunt message.

During an April 22 appearance on Mad Dog Radio, Alexander noted the characteristics that he wants to see from a potential Seahawks first-round pick, rather than naming a potential prospect he would like to see the team target.

“My No. 1 thought for a first-rounder would be to get the guy that fits well in the culture, and then go get the most talented guy that fits the culture,” Alexander said. “Because if it’s a running back, if it’s a safety, if it’s another D-lineman, another O-lineman, just go get talent that fits the culture, because he’ll get in there and he’ll work his tail off.

“You’ve got a bunch of hardworking Seahawks out there that are putting that thing down. So get the guy that has the talent, but also has the mindset for the Seahawks culture.”

While the potential first-round pick will get the spotlight, it’s safe to assume Alexander would like all the draft picks the Seahawks select to fit the culture Seattle has built under head coach Mike Macdonald.

Cashius Howell Gets Blunt About Visiting Seattle

Over the offseason, Seattle saw several key players from its Super Bowl-winning squad leave in free agency. As a result, the Seahawks will be looking to replace those players in the draft.

One of the departures that Seattle saw was Boye Mafe, which is why the team could target an edge rusher in the draft. During an April 21 appearance on “Up & Adams,” former Texas A&M star Cashius Howell shared details about his Top 30-visit and said he could see himself playing for the Seahawks.

“It was great,” Howell said. “The facilities, everything was so beautiful up there in Seattle. The coaching staff did a great job of welcoming me with open arms and really just kind of giving me the lay of the land, telling me what they expect me to do within the defense if they were to draft me.

“We watched a little film, did a little install, and just kind of had a great insight into what to expect if they were to draft me. It was a great visit. I got to meet a lot of great staff members and great players. So, like I said, I definitely feel like it would be a great fit to go play for the Seattle Seahawks.”

Cashius Howell Blown Away by Seahawks’ Culture

Moreover, Howell went into detail about how impressed he was with the culture the team has built since the arrival of head coach Mike Macdonald, which enabled the Seahawks to win the Super Bowl last season. As a result, it is no surprise that Seattle wants a player who fits into this culture.

“Honestly, I was blown away,” Howell added. “Based on some of the things that the coaches were saying and kind of the culture that they were trying to, or not trying to, but have already established in the locker room and just throughout the facilities, it makes sense as to why they win Super Bowls and that they’re always consistently just having great seasons.

“Honestly, I was just blown away by the whole visit and just thinking about all the scenarios that would happen and honestly wishing I could be a Seattle Seahawk. So that would definitely be a blessing.”
