Seahawks’ Mike Macdonald Issues 4-Word Message on Nick Emmanwori’s Injury Status

The Seattle Seahawks wrapped up their final practice ahead of Super Bowl LX, and all eyes are on rookie safety Nick Emmanwori. After reports indicated that Emmanwori suffered an ankle injury during the team’s practice on Wednesday, he didn’t practice on Thursday, leading fans to be quite concerned about his status ahead of the big game.

Emmanwori’s practice status on Friday was believed to be the key in determining whether or not he would have an injury designation ahead of the Super Bowl. After Emmanwori returned to practice two days before the team’s clash against the New England Patriots, head coach Mike Macdonald eased fans’ worries by issuing a hilarious four-word message regarding Emmanwori’s injury status.

After getting selected in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft, Emmanwori quickly established himself as a key piece of the Seahawks’ defense. While he’s listed as a safety, Emmanwori lines up all over the defense, which is a big reason the team’s defense is able to do many of the things it has done this year.

In 14 games, Emmanwori racked up 81 tackles, 2.5 sacks, one interception, and 11 pass deflections. Rather than playing deep in the secondary, Emmanwori is more frequently used as a nickelback or a linebacker playing in the box. The former South Carolina Gamecocks star can blow up run plays, pressure the quarterback, and hold his own in coverage, making him one of the most versatile defenders in the game.

When Emmanwori was seen limping to his hotel room after Seattle’s practice on Wednesday, fears about his game status quickly bubbled to the surface. Despite that, Emmanwori continually said that he would be good to go for this game. Sure enough, he does not have an injury designation heading into this one, leading Macdonald to issue a four-word message regarding the talented defensive playmaker.

“Meanwhile, Seahawks safety Nick Emmanwori also has no injury designation and will play, coach Mike Macdonald told pool reporter Kalyn Kahler: ‘Turns out he’s alive,’” Tom Pelissero of NFL Network shared in a post on X.

While there are a ton of talented players on the Seahawks’ defense, Emmanwori may end up being the most important of the bunch. His ability to line up all over the field (even at defensive tackle) allows Seattle to get creative with its coverage schemes and blitz packages. Even if he’s not at 100% health, his presence will give New England’s offense so many things to worry about.

In the buildup to this game, the Seahawks have emerged as the overwhelming favorite to come out on top over the Patriots. Make no mistake, though: New England is going to give Seattle all it can handle in this one. Emmanwori will be worth keeping an eye on as the game gets underway, but he will be on the field with the rest of his teammates when the action kicks off at 6:30 p.m. ET on Sunday night.
