Scottie Scheffler Stuns Masters Fans With Surprise Guest Before Tee-Off

Meredith Scheffler made one of the most talked-about appearances at Augusta National in recent memory Wednesday, showing up to caddie for world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler at the Masters Par 3 Contest just 12 days after giving birth to the couple’s second son.

Scottie, 29, competed in the Par 3 Contest on April 8 with Meredith serving as his caddie, according to Miranda Siwak of Us Weekly, alongside the couple’s two sons — 23-month-old Bennett and newborn Remy, who arrived on March 27. Meredith carried Remy in a baby wrap on her chest while Bennett, wearing a matching caddie uniform with the Scheffler name across the back, roamed the course with a toy blue golf club.

“This is what it’s all about!” Scottie wrote on Instagram alongside a family photo from Augusta National. “Remy made his big debut and we are officially a family of four.”

Scottie later posted video to his Instagram Stories of Bennett taking a putt during the contest, captioning it “Like father, like son.”

Meredith had already made an earlier Augusta appearance, bringing baby Remy to Scottie’s Sunday, April 5, practice round in Augusta, Georgia, ahead of the tournament.

“We had another boy a couple weeks ago,” Scottie told reporters — a classically low-key delivery from the famously unflappable Texan.

And despite the demands of a newborn at home, Scheffler said rest hasn’t been a problem. “I’m getting plenty of sleep. My wife’s a trooper,” Scheffler told reporters, as quoted by the Daily Mail. “Remy is so young right now, they sleep a lot of the day. I think he’s used to being in the womb at this point.”

Scottie and Meredith Scheffler: High School Sweethearts Who Became Augusta’s First Family

Scottie and Meredith met as freshmen at Highland Park High School in Dallas, according to Sarah Kester of The Knot, and didn’t start dating until their senior year. They attended rival Texas colleges — Scottie at the University of Texas, Meredith at Texas A&M. They got engaged in June 2020 and married that December at Arlington Hall in Dallas with a winter wonderland-themed reception. The family is based in Dallas, where Scottie has trained since childhood under longtime swing coach Randy Smith.

Meredith, beyond her role as Scottie’s most devoted supporter, works as a connections liaison at Behind Every Door, a Dallas nonprofit that serves underserved communities, according to Parade Magazine. Scottie has publicly championed the organization as well.

Scheffler has been unusually candid about where golf falls on his priority list. Augusta, he said Wednesday, already carries deep personal meaning, even if his kids are too young to grasp it.

“This place signifies so much for me in my golf journey, and that’s something I’d love to be able to share with my kids,” he said. “We’ll see how that goes as they age.” As for the green jacket he wore near 23-month-old Bennett: “I’m just hoping he doesn’t ruin it or anything like that.”

Scheffler’s Career: 20 PGA Tour Wins, 4 Majors and a Chance at History This Week

Scheffler arrives at the 2026 Masters as the heavy favorite, listed at 6-1 by BetMGM Sportsbook as of Wednesday morning. The expectations are well-earned. He has 20 PGA Tour victories, per the PGA Tour, all within a four-year span. Scheffler is also just the third player in history, alongside Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods, to reach 20 Tour wins and four major championships before turning 30.

His haul includes two Masters titles (2022 and 2024), back-to-back Players Championship victories in 2023 and 2024, the 2025 PGA Championship, per the PGA Championship website, and the 2025 Open Championship. He also claimed Olympic gold in Paris in 2024. His career earnings have surpassed $100 million in official PGA Tour money, according to Golf Channel — a threshold previously crossed only by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.

His 2026 season has been solid if not yet dominant by his own standards. He won The American Express in January, added top-five finishes at Phoenix and Pebble Beach, then stepped away entirely to be home for Remy’s birth on March 27. A win at Augusta this week would make him just the second player since Adam Scott in 2013 to claim the title after three or more weeks away from competition.

“Game feels like it’s in a good spot,” Scheffler said Wednesday. “I got some rest the last few weeks at home. So I feel rested and ready to go this week.”

With baby Remy in the gallery and a third green jacket on the line, it’s shaping up to be a memorable week for the Scheffler family.
