Savannah Guthrie has made her decision on hosting the 2026 Winter Olympics amid her mother’s sudden disappearance, a new report indicates.
Police in Pima County, Arizona, said the NBC broadcaster’s 84-year-old mother was taken against her will and remains missing, the news outlet reported on Monday.
“Police say they believe Savannah Guthrieâs 84-year-old mother, Nancy Guthrie, was taken from her home against her will before her family reported her missing from her Arizona residence the following day,” NBC reported.
The report added that Nancy Guthrie was last seen on Saturday night at her home outside Tucson, then was reported missing by her family at noon on Sunday.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told reporters at a news conference that they believe Nancy Guthrie was abducted.
âWe believe she was taken out of the home against her will, and thatâs how this investigation is moving,” Nanos told NBC News.
âI canât think of the last time where in the middle of the night in someoneâs bed, an 84-year-old woman disappeared on us,â he added.
Amid her mother’s suspected abduction, Savannah Guthrie has pulled out of her plans to cover the 2026 Winter Olympics, which begin this week. The New York Post’s Page Six reported that Guthrie will not travel to Italy for the opening ceremonies on Friday.
“Savannah Guthrie is set to drop out of hosting the 2026 Winter Olympics opening ceremony for NBC as her mom, Nancy Guthrie, remains missing, Page Six can exclusively reveal. The ‘Today’ anchor, 54, was due to be in Italy for the start of the 2026 Games on Friday â where she was set to co-host the ceremony alongside Terry Gannon â but likely wonât be there, sources said,” the report noted.
