Saratoga students win scholarships for ‘accomplishment in their field’

The Saratoga Foothill Club recently awarded scholarships to five local students pursuing higher education.

Saratoga High School seniors Arushi Maheshwar, Zhekai Feng and Kate Oberhauser and West Valley College student Justin Sinn and Rachel Aguilar. Castelan all received scholarships from the club

“Recipients were selected based on academic record, accomplishment in their field and contribution tothe community,” a statement from the club reads.

The Saratoga Foothill Club has been distributing scholarships to local students for over 50 years.

Montalvo’s summer luncheons

Montalvo Arts Center is hosting its annual summer luncheons Wednesdays, July 10-Aug. 14.

For $70, attendees can enjoy a meal at Villa Montalvo along with live piano music. There are three seating times each Wednesday: noon, 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m.. The menus will change each week, with themes ranging from “Lunch on the Italian Riviera” on July 24 to “Escape to Greece” on Aug. 14.

Proceeds will help support the maintenance and preservation of the villa and grounds, according to Montalvo’s website.

FireSafe council gets grant

The Santa Clara County FireSafe Council was recently awarded a $217,000 Community Wildfire Defense Grant. Communities received priority for this program if they are either a low-income area, recently impacted by disaster or in a high or very high wildfire hazard potential location.

Seth Schalet, CEO of the FireSafe Council, said in a release that the Saratoga-based group’s current grant is set to expire at the end of the year. “This new funding enables us to continue essential work as the county coordinator, and support the continuing development of the Countywide Community Wildfire Protection Plan,” he added.
