San Jose’s Music in the Park targets ‘new level’ with big 2024 lineup

San Jose’s Music in the Park continues to up its offerings.

The 2024 lineup already has five shows listed — with as many as three more on way, according to organizers. That’s up from three gigs in 2022 and just one in 2021. (No Music in the Park gigs were held in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic that pretty shut down the entire touring industry.)

The lineup includes some impressive names — including the legendary Beach Boys and Mexico City rock act El Tri.

“We have one of the biggest bands in Mexico, the top band in Cuba and America’s answer to the Beatles all on one bill,” says Dan Pulcrano, one of the Music in the Park organizers. “This will hopefully take Music in the Park to a new level.”

Tickets are now on sale at mitpsj.com.

Here’s the 2024 lineup so far. The outdoor concerts run 5-10 p.m. at Plaza de César Chávez in downtown San Jose.

El Tri — The Mexico City rock act, fronted by Alex Lora, performs June 22.

Los Van Van — The legendary Cuban act, which was founded by bassist Juan Formell in 1969, performs July 26.

The Beach Boys — Get ready to have plenty of “Fun, Fun, Fun” when these Rock and Roll Hall of Famers perform on July 28.

Steel Pulse — The English reggae act, known for such songs as “Your House” and “Roller Skates,” performs Aug. 16.

J Boog — The SoCal native, who blends West Coast and Polynesian grooves into his reggae music, performs Sept. 22.
