Police said an initial investigation determined that the pregnant woman was driving a white 2018 Ford sedan north on South White Road when she tried to turn left onto Farringdon Drive, and hit an oncoming black 2016 Jeep SUV.

She was taken to a hospital where her baby was delivered and listed in critical condition, police said. The infant died Sunday; the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office concluded that she died from multiple injuries suffered in the crash, and her “very preterm” development stage.

The collision marked San Jose’s 18th traffic death of the year.
