Before their showdown with the Yankees, the Giants released a veteran player (Eric Haase).

Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area wrote: “Eric Haase was released with Daniel Susac winning the backup catcher job. Hentges, Peguero and Sanmartin all start the season on the IL. It’s 60-day for Sanmartin, who will miss several months.”

Haase is coming off a season where he batted .229 with two home runs, nine RBI’s and 11 runs in 30 games for the Milwaukee Brewers.

He has played eight MLB seasons.

His most productive season came in 2021 (with the Tigers).

That year, he batted .231 with 22 home runs, 61 RBI’s and 48 runs in just 98 games.

Over 383 career games, the 33-year-old is batting .228 with 48 home runs, 160 RBI’s and 134 runs.

He could be a reliable veteran for teams to add to their clubhouse at some point during the season.

Michael Monreal of Just Baseball wrote (on March 8): “Eric Haase with a home run to center field. #SFGiants – 99.8 mph – 383 ft. Susac is likely the frontrunner for the backup spot, but Haase has plenty of experience in the big leagues. Many forget he was one of the better offensive catchers in the league in 2021 and 22’.”

The Giants are coming off a year where they went 81-81.

They last made the MLB playoffs during the 2021 season when they lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS.
