Three days after the conclusion of the NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers announced a pair of signings this afternoon. They signed former Raiders running back Sincere McCormick and Giants safety Patrick McMorris to one-year contracts.Â
McMormick joined the 49ers practice squad in August 2025 and spent a few months with the team until being released on Nov. 18. McMormick was also on the Arizona Cardinals, Denver Broncos and Minnesota Vikings practice squads. The 25-year-old running back did not see a snap last season. But he played in 5 games for the Raiders in 2024, where he registered 39 carries for 183 yards (4.7 average) and 6 receptions for 29 yards (4.8 average).
McMorris is a former sixth-round safety selected by the Miami Dolphins in the 2024 NFL Draft. He has spent time with the Dolphins (2024-2025) and was on the New York Giants and the Arizona Cardinals practice squads last season. Throughout his NFL career, he has registered 1 tackle in 6 games.

Updated Look at the San Francisco 49ers Running Back Room
McMormick will join a crowded 49ers running back room headlined by Christian McCaffrey. But the 49ers running back group is fairly young and inexperienced.Â
San Francisco has invested in the position in the last three draft classes. This year, they took Kaelon Black, who is coming off a national championship run with the Indiana Hoosiers, with the 90th overall pick in the third round. In 2025, they took Oregon running back Jordan James in the fifth round. Lastly, they took Isaac Guerendo in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Guerendo appeared in 16 games as a rookie, totalling 420 yards on 84 carries. But he did not record a single carry in 2025. James also saw minimal playing time in his rookie season.
But the 49ers lost last yearâs backup running back, Brian Robinson Jr., to free agency, which could open up competition for the role heading into the 2026 season.
Updated Look at San Francisco 49ers Safety Depth
The 49ers return their starting free safety, JiâAyir Brown, and strong safety, Malik Mustapha, for the 2026 season. They also return Marquise Sigle, whom they took with the 160th overall pick in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.Â
But they did not address the position in this yearâs draft, which shocked many. San Francisco signed Notre Dame safety Jalen Stroman as an undrafted free agent.Â
McMorris could serve as a nice backup option to the position if the 49ers donât add any more safeties this offseason.
