Russell Wilson Surprisingly Shows True Feelings on Seahawks Amid Uncertain NFL Future

Former Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson appears to be paying close attention to his old team during their NFL playoff run. It is safe to say things ended in a messy divorce between Wilson and the Seahawks before the quarterback was traded to the Denver Broncos.

The two sides may never agree on whether Wilson requested a trade, or it was the Seahawks who wanted to move on. Amid the rumors that Wilson wanted the team to cut ties with Pete Carroll, the star quarterback attended a party honoring the former coach shortly after he was fired by the Seahawks.

After the Seahawks’ dominant win over the San Francisco 49ers, Wilson took to X to share a special message about his former team and show Sam Darnold some love as well.

“Last Night’s game… shows how LEGIT this @Seahawks Team is… and I Love Sam Darnold’s comeback story! 🙌🏾” Wilson said in a January 18, 2026, message on X.

Here’s the latest NFL rumors on Wilson’s future and where things stand with the Seahawks.

Could Russell Wilson Reunite With the Seahawks in NFL Free Agency?

As time passes, Wilson is likely going to be remembered more fondly in the Pacific Northwest, especially as the quarterback who helped bring a Super Bowl to Seattle. The bigger question surrounds Wilson’s future in the NFL.

After spending 2025 with the New York Giants, Wilson will once again be an NFL free agent. The former Pro Bowl quarterback is going to find it increasingly hard to secure a landing spot where the star can compete for a starting spot.

If Wilson is destined to be a backup quarterback at his next stop, could a reunion with the Seahawks be in the cards? Seattle is not going to move on from Darnold for Wilson, but the former Seahawks star finishing his career as a backup in the Pacific Northwest is not the craziest idea.

Chances are the Seahawks would not enjoy the scrutiny that would come from Wilson being the team’s backup quarterback. It remains to be seen where Wilson will play next season.

Ex-Seahawks Star Russell Wilson Open to Being a Backup Quarterback in 2026: Report

Wilson switched agents to Athletes First’s David Mulugheta in preparation for NFL free agency, per ESPN’s Jordan Raanan. Wilson is also open to being a backup quarterback in 2026, Raanan reported.

“Yeah, I’m not blinking,” Wilson said of his NFL future on January 8, per Raanan. “I know what I’m capable of. I think I showed that in Dallas. I want to do that again and just be ready to rock and roll and be as healthy as possible and be able to play ball.

“… My hope is just to have the ball in my hands and help a team win. Try to do everything I can to help an organization get to the finish line. That is my focus,” Wilson continued.
