Royal Challengers Bengaluru Sold Days Before Season Opener

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru are gearing up for their 2026 IPL T20 cricket season opener in a few short days. However, there is some magic happening behind the scenes that might make the start date a more joyous occasion.

Sales happen often in sports, after all. On March 24th, 2026, it was announced that Kal Somani and a consortium of investors had bought the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. They purchased the organization for $1.6 billion, the highest price ever paid for an IPL team.

At least, until a sale of the RCB goes through.

A new report suggests a frontrunner to purchase the RCB franchise, with a deal expected to be announced very soon.


RCB Sold to Consortium of Investors

Following in RR’s footsteps, RCB is reported to have been sold to a consortium of investors.

MoneyControl reports that this is a done deal, with an announcement expected shortly.

“A consortium of Aditya Birla Group, American sports investor David Blitzer, US private equity firm Blackstone, and  Times of India has emerged as the front-runner to acquire Diageo-owned IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru, multiple industry sources in the know told Moneycontrol,” the report states. “An official announcement on the proposed transaction is expected shortly, these sources added. They spoke on the condition of anonymity.”

“Moneycontrol could not elicit an immediate comment from Diageo, United Spirits, Aditya Birla group, David Blitzer, and Times of India.”
They are expected to purchase the franchise for a price between $1.5 billion and $2 billion.
