Rory McIlroy Feud Is Revived Amid Controversy After Second Masters Win

With his second Masters Tournament win, Rory McIlroy’s name has seen a major resurgence in the news for a variety of reasons. One of those involves his competitors giving him both recognition and respect for his win, while others lament on their past feuds with the Northern Irish golf icon.

Greg Norman and Rory McIlroy went head-to-head in a feud just a few years ago when the two became polarized from one another. Now Norman is admitting that he wishes he had sat down and had a proper conversation with McIlroy. Here’s what he’s had to say in the weeks following Rory McIlroy’s second green jacket at Augusta National.

Greg Norman Reveals Regret He Has Over Past Feud With Rory McIlroy

At the heart of the dispute between Rory McIlroy and Greg Norman is the emergence of LIV golf, the Saudi Arabian-backed circuit that has challenged the traditional dominance of the PGA Tour. Norman, a two-time major champion and former world No. 1, has served as the public face of LIV Golf – of which he was CEO until 2025 – and originally sparked feud rumors with McIlroy when the new league of competition was formed. In recent weeks, LIV Golf has been in the spotlight as international conflict tensions have risen in the Middle East, and Norman has used the global attention to express his regrets over past events with the other golfer.

According to Mirror U.S. Sports, Norman opened up about the longstanding feud with McIlroy and his wishful thinking over how things could have played out better between the two. Speaking with “Dan on Golf” Norman recounted his experience and thoughts on the matter, saying, “I just wish I’d sat down with Rory and a few others on the PGA Tour to explain to them what my mission was and what LIV mission was.”

Rory McIlroy Has Also Been Reported To Have Active Feuds With Patrick Reed, Bryson DeChambeau

In addition to the historic feud between Greg Norman and Rory McIlroy, the two-time Masters Champion is also known to have active feuds with current golfers on the PGA Tour. These notably include Patrick Reed and Bryson DeChambeau. As reported by The Sporting News, the feud between McIlroy and Reed was unveiled in court documents from the PGA-LIV lawsuit. Transitioning from the PGA Tour to being a competitor on the LIV circuit, Reed attracted a feud with McIlroy in the process that has had hints at the same underlying foundation as the feud McIlroy has maintained with Norman over the latter’s switch to LIV while McIlroy maintains allegiance to the PGA Tour.
