Rory McIlroy and Wife Erica Stoll Make Strong Statement With Masters Appearance

Rory McIlroy and wife Erica Stoll were dressed for success at the Masters this weekend.

The Northern Irish golfer made history when he won his second straight Masters, becoming just the fourth golfer in the last 40 years to hold at least a share of the lead after all four rounds. McIlroy gave credit to Stoll after the win, and one viewer realized that the two had coordinated an expensive part of their outfits for the big event.

Rory McIlroy and Wife Sported Expensive Watches

As SI.com’s Grant Young noted, social media watch influencer Chad Alexander made a post about the rose-gold watch that Stoll wore, which retails for close to six figures. McIlroy had an expensive timepiece of his own, the report added.

“However, this wasn’t the only watch that Stoll brought to The Masters. Alexander noted this with a follow-up video about another one she wore,” Young wrote. “Alexander explained that Stoll was wearing a Patek Philippe Perpetual Twenty~4 that was also in rose-gold. He listed the market value for this watch being $100,000.”

“What’s more, McIlroy had a similar situation on his own wrist. The video explained how he was wearing a rose-gold Omega De Ville Central Tourbillon while competing at Augusta. Just like the watch his wife was wearing, McIlroy’s watch also has a market price of $100,000, according to Alexander.”

Rory McIlroy Credited Erica Stoll After Victory

McIlroy shared an emotional moment with Stoll after his short putt on the 18th hole wrapped up his second straight Masters championship. He then credited his wife and daughter for their support as he prepared for the Masters.

“First and foremost, my wife and daughter, Erica and Poppy. They have to put up with me at home, and trust me, sometimes that’s a tough thing to do,” McIlroy said.

McIlroy had explained earlier in the tournament that he took advantage of his unique privilege to play at August as a past champion, taking day trips from the family home in Florida.

“I did a couple of day trips like that where I felt it was a better use of my time than going to Houston or San Antonio,” he said, via The Guardian. “It wasn’t really about conserving energy, but just I felt the more time I could spend up here, the better.”

McIlroy said he would take daughter Poppy to school, then flew over to Georgia for some practice time and was back with his family be evening.

“I did a couple of days where I dropped [daughter] Poppy to school, flew up here, played, landed back home and had dinner with Poppy and [wife] Erica,” McIlroy said.

McIlroy admitted it was a sacrifice, but said it helped him prepare to defend his title.

“I’ve been on this golf course so much the last three weeks,” he said. “That has been a combination of practice and chipping and putting around greens, and then just playing one ball and shooting scores and ending up in weird places that you maybe never find yourself and just trying to figure it out. I think just spending so much time up here has been a big part of it.”
