Rory McIlory Has Personal News Emerge Weeks After Masters

Rory McIlroy may be taking some much deserved time off from the PGA Tour, but the wins just keep coming. McIroy earned another trophy amid his time away from golf.

Laureus announced that McIlroy won the World Comeback of the Year Award for his win at the 2025 Masters.

“The journey. The resilience. The moment,” Laureus detailed in an April 20, 2026, Instagram message.

“Fresh off his latest Green Jacket, Rory McIlroy accepts the Laureus World Comeback of the Year Award for his 2025 Masters win.”

Amid McIlroy’s hot streak at Augusta National, the golfer revealed that he has gained inspiration from other athletes who have found a second wave of success during their careers. McIlroy cited Tom Brady, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Roger Federer among the stars who he has pulled inspiration from during his recent run.

“I’ve certainly got a lot of inspiration from other athletes and athletes that are maybe at the back end of their careers and still being able to achieve these great things,” McIlroy told Laureus after accepting the award. “I think of Novak (Djokovic) and Roger and Rafa (Nadal) in tennis, or I look at Messi or Ronaldo in soccer.

“I look at Tom Brady in American football. I’m certainly older than I once was, and I think just to take inspiration from those guys and what they were able to achieve later into their careers always gives me the belief that one day I’d be able to do it at Augusta.”

I’m on this journey to — I don’t know, I just won my sixth major, and I feel like I’m in a really good spot with my game and my body.

“… I’ve waited so long to win the Masters, and all of a sudden I win two in a row. So I still want to enjoy it. I’ve got a couple of weeks off before I go back to play competitive golf, but I don’t think I’ll go through that lull of motivation or the sort of things that I was feeling last year post winning this tournament.”
