The Alabama Crimson Tide football team continues to develop young defensive talent, and Justin Hill is quickly emerging as a name to watch heading into the 2026 season.
After appearing in all 15 games as a true freshman, Hill is no longer just a rotational piece; he’s pushing for a much bigger role during his sophomore campaign. His performance during Alabama’s A-Day scrimmage showed clear progress, especially as he rotated with the first-team defense for much of the day.
Still, Hill made it clear he’s focused on refining his craft and improving his overall play.
“Obviously, my bend, get off, stance, start, my hand placement… just watching film… trying to get better.”
Hill flashed as a true freshman in 2025, but understands that continued growth will be the key to turning those flashes into more consistent playmaking.
Justin Hill Aims to Become a Game-Changer
As Hill enters his sophomore season, his mindset has clearly shifted from learning the system to impacting outcomes.
“I’ll just say my effect on the game… being the guy who can disrupt and change the outcome of the game.”
That’s exactly what defensive coordinator Kane Wommack is looking for as Alabama continues to build a more dominant pass rush unit. Generating consistent pressure has been a point of emphasis, and Hill could play a major role in that improvement.
Justin Hill Leaning On Veteran Yhonze Pierre
Hill is also leaning on veteran leadership, particularly from teammate Yhonzae Pierre, who had a dominating season in 2025 with 8 sacks.
“He’s a guy who’s a competitor… I just go out there and play ball without really thinking about it.”
That instinctive, aggressive style could be the key to unlocking Hill’s full potential.
At the same time, Hill acknowledged there’s still work to be done across the defensive front.
“I feel like we did all right, but… we missed a lot more with our defense and our pass rush.”
With continued development and a stronger emphasis on consistency and intensity, Hill is positioning himself to become one of the most disruptive defenders on Alabama’s roster in 2026.
