Report: Bills Showing Interest in Sleeper Weapon for Josh Allen

Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills have been a piece or two away from a Super Bowl over the last few years. One of the biggest glaring issues last season was a lack of talent at the wide receiver position.

Already this offseason, the Bills have been aggressive in fixing that problem. They went out and acquired veteran wideout DJ Moore in a trade with the Chicago Bears. However, they can’t stop there with their wide receiver overhaul.

Buffalo would be wise to bring in one or two wide receivers throughout the 2026 NFL Draft.

Many believe that the team could take a wideout in the first round at No. 26 overall. Texas A&M wideout KC Concepcion has become a very popular talking point with that pick.

A new report has come out that the Bills are also showing interest in a sleeper wide receiver option who would be a potential target later in the draft.

Buffalo Bills Interested in Sleeper Weapon for Josh Allen

According to a report from Tony Pauline of Essentially Sports, Buffalo has a private workout on the schedule with Oregon Ducks wide receiver Malik Benson.

Benson is widely expected to be a day three pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. He could be a fifth or even sixth round target. It’s possible he could slide into the seventh round.

Standing in at 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds, Benson has played for three different college teams over the last three years.

In 2023, he played for Alabama and caught 13 passes for 162 yards and a touchdown. He spent the 2024 season with Florida State, catching 25 passes for 315 yards and a score. Then, in 2025, he played with Oregon and racked up 43 catches for 719 yards and six touchdowns.

Even though he isn’t a flashy name, taking a flier on a sleeper option like Benson late in the draft would be wise for the Bills.

What Are Analysts Saying About Malik Benson?

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein has provided an overview of what Benson brings to the field. He provided some reason to think that Benson could find success at the NFL level.

“Benson, formerly the No. 1 JUCO prospect, made his mark with Oregon in 2025 after less productive stints at Alabama (2023) and Florida State (2024). He combines electric, track-caliber speed with above-average ball skills to create a real deep threat on every snap. He needs to diversify his releases and his route-running won’t impress, but his speed forces open easy hitches/slants underneath,” Zierlein wrote.

“He has a plus catch radius and rare toughness for a speed demon. He’s unflinching working into the middle. Benson can turn slants and over routes into long scores against certain looks but isn’t a natural on manufactured touches. Shell coverages could limit his value, but his ability to create explosives is undeniable.”

If Buffalo can land an elite young weapon for Allen in the first round and then double down with a sleeper option like Benson in the later rounds, that would be a win. The Bills could easily take the wide receiver position from a weakness to a strength in one year.
