Red Sox’s Jarren Duran Deletes Social Media Account After Online Scuffle

The Boston Red Sox have struggled during the first quarter of the season.

Between the firing of manager Alex Cora and the poor play of their highly-paid stars, there has been plenty of drama this season.

The theatrics continued over the weekend.

Red Sox center fielder Jarren Duran is no stranger to controversy over his career.

However, amid a poor season by Duran, he has gotten himself into hot water again.

NBC Sports Boston analyst Michael Holley called out Duran’s teammate, Roman Anthony, to which Duran took exception on Saturday.

After a brief internet scuffle, fans noticed that Duran had deleted his Instagram account.

What Did Holley Say About Boston Red Sox Outfielder Roman Anthony?

After calling out Anthony for his poor performance in 2026, even calling him “one of the biggest flops we’ve ever seen”, Holley had more to say about Anthony and the Red Sox.

“I understand why all teams do it, but let’s just be honest,” Holley said. “All teams lie. They lie about injuries, they just do. So when the Red Sox did it, like, why are we doing this? Why are you playing games with us? This is an unnecessary lie. We know you’re lying. Stop it. ‘He’s day-to-day.’ No, he’s not! And then Chad Tracy doubling down, ‘Oh, he’s gonna be on the (injured list), on the shorter end-‘ No, he’s not, Chad! No, he’s not! He’s not!”

While it’s not difficult to see why any teammate would be mad at Holley’s comments, Duran may have gone over the top with his response.

Duran responded by screenshotting the video with a caption that said, “They let people like this on NBC Sports” with a clown and laughing emoji.

While all of this happened on Saturday, fans noticed that Duran’s Instagram account was no longer present.

Duran has tried his best to be a leader in the Red Sox clubhouse over the last couple of seasons. However, the results have been mixed at best.

Whether Duran went too far or not is up to interpretation. Either way, the drama has continued in the Red Sox clubhouse.

How Has Duran Done on the Field?

To say Duran has struggled this season is an understatement.

After an All-Star season in 2024 that saw Duran finish eighth in MVP voting, Duran followed it up with a solid year in 2025.

The 2026 season has been a different story. In 35 games, Duran has a .194/.253/.324 slash line with four home runs and eight stolen bases.

His defense has been solid with +2 Outs Above Average, according to Baseball Savant.

While he has had better luck over his last seven games with a .258/.303/.484 slash line, it has been a season full of drama and struggles on the field.

With Boston currently at a 17-23 record, third-worst in the American League, things appear bleak for the Red Sox.

However, Boston is just two games out of the Wild Card in what has been a weak AL this season.

The Red Sox will need Duran to overcome his struggles on and off the field if the Red Sox want a chance at turning this season around.
