Red Sox Hall Of Famer Makes Blunt Statement About Mets’ Marcus Semien

The New York Mets secured a dominating 8-0 win over the Washington Nationals, after getting swept by the Colorado Rockies in their previous three games. The Mets took advantage of the Nationals’ errors on defense in their seven-run fourth inning.

As a collective unit, the Mets tallied eight runs on six hits, two home runs, and five walks. Despite a lack of offensive production following the fourth inning, Mets’ hitters showed discipline and only struck out a total of three times.

One of the Mets’ main contributors came from second baseman Marcus Semien, who knocked in two runs following an error from Jorbit Vivas. Semien hit a chopper down the third base line that got under Vivas’ glove.

Including tonight’s two RBIs, Semien only has nine RBIs through 103 at-bats. His 2026 splits are .214/.277/.291, and in the last seven games is only batting .154.

In November 2025, Marcus Semien was traded to the Mets for long-time outfielder Brandon Nimmo. The Mets took on the final three years of Semien’s seven-year, $175 million contract.

So far, Semien has not lived up to that number.

Pedro Martinez Makes Bold New York Mets Claim Regarding Marcus Semien

Red Sox Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez is currently a sports analyst for MLB on TBS. Martinez has made himself active on X, frequently sharing his opinion about what’s happening around the MLB.

  Colorado weather: Where, when and how much snow will fall this week?

On April 28, following the Mets 10th win of 2026, Martinez shared his opinion of Marcus Semien.

“Mets: They need to get Marcus Semien going if they want to get somewhere,” Martinez stated.

While short, Martinez’s tweet was enough to get fans going in the replies.

@MasterFlip_: Pedro, there’s a lot of players mets need to get going if they want to go somewhere. Semien is towards the bottom of the list.

@MillennialRisk: His bat is cooked..he’s got nothing left offensively anymore.

@jermeyallen1995: I’m afraid he’s washed up Pedro.

This is not the first time Martinez has commented on the Mets and their struggles this season. On April 7, Martinez spoke about the lack of team chemistry, claiming that it falls on the management.

“…the Mets do not have that kind of chemistry, that sense of urgency that they need,” Martinez said. “And management needs to find a way to find someone that’s going to connect with those players, and force them to play to the top of their abilities…”

Martinez’s recent claim regarding Semien can be tied back to his statement about a lack of team chemistry. While Semien is new to the Mets organization, this is the 35-year-old’s 13th MLB season, and the Mets’ young players could use his veteran leadership moving forward.
